The GIA - (Gemmological Institue of America) has been serving Industry professionals and consumers alike since it was formed by Robert M. Shipley in 1931. The Head Office is based in New York.

It is an independant, non-profit organisation and is renowned for its impartial and unbiased service.

Its mission is to ensure the public trust by educating and serving the gem and jewellry industry worldwide.

It developed the first internationally accepted Diamond Grading System with unbiased opinions of the quality of polished diamonds by applying uniform criteria to their grading. It also introduced the foremost diamond report and in doing so, set the standard for diamond quality documentation around the world.
